The Aeropress World Championship is a competition organized by coffee enthusiasts, where participants compete to brew the best cup of coffee using an Aeropress. Iran Aeropress is the only official national representative of this international event, giving the first-place winner the opportunity to represent Iran in the final stage of the championship.
Each country’s visual identity for the event is designed to reflect its unique culture and artistic heritage. For the 2022 Iran Aeropress Championship, Nim Studio took a surreal approach, drawing inspiration from Iran’s rich history and artistic legacy.
The grandeur and significance of the Achaemenid Empire served as the main inspiration for our design. Our surreal perspective is reflected in how the columns of Persepolis are reimagined as chess pieces, which ultimately transform into an Aeropress machine. This conceptual link emerged from the structural similarities between Achaemenid columns and the Aeropress, leading to a design where the brewing process visually mirrors the weight and pressure exerted by stone columns.
Additionally, the competition arena was designed as a chessboard, where the chess pieces represent the participants. We integrated griffins from the capitals of Persepolis with chess elements, further strengthening the connection between the historical and competitive aspects of the event.
To enhance the immersive experience, we paid close attention to the stone texture of the columns, making them feel like the very body of an Aeropress machine pressing down to brew coffee. The colors and imaging techniques used in the event’s identity were carefully chosen to evoke the magnificence of the Achaemenid era and the monumental presence of Persepolis.
